What’s the smart time?

We are beginning to see more technology companies produce devices that you can strap to your wrist in true Dick Tracy style. These devices still need to be tethered to a mobile device to have full functionality, but they are proving a boon for many who spend their time immersed in their mobile devices no matter where they are.

These devices provide the ability to receive notifications for things such as SMS and email while viewing them at a glance. As a notification device the smart watch probably has lot of application, however, where they start to fall down is that fact that like most modern technology, you’ll still need to charge these devices once a day.

The question now is whether such wearable devices will prove to be the next step in technology, or merely a fad driven by technology companies attempting to create demand where there was none before. This line of thinking is of course driven by the fact that these new devices are not cheap.

Time will tell (if you pardon the pun) as to whether smart watches are indeed the next wave in mobile technology or merely a passing fad. Before you get swept up in the hype, step back and ask yourself whether such a device, for the asking price is in fact REALLY going to be worth it? However, if you do go out and splurge on one, being the geeks we are, we’d love to see it so please don’t be shy!
