The wait is finally over for the new flagship phone from Google. The Nexus 5 is now available directly from the Google Play store. It isn’t the hardware that makes this device so appealing, it’s the fact that it’s from Google.
A phone direct from Google has major appeal for two reasons. Firstly, it is the only phone on the market with a “pure” Google experience devoid of all the ‘bloat ware’ that many manufacturers are now starting to pile into their phones in an attempt to distinguish themselves in a crowded market. Secondly, it is the only handset that will have the latest version of the Android operating system, version 4.4 known as Kit Kat.
You can find out more about the phone at:
but some of the basic specs include:
– 4.8 oz
– 4.95” 1920 x 1080 display (445 ppi)
– Snapdragon 800, 2.3Ghz processor
– 4G and dual band Wi-Fi
– Wireless charging
Early reviews say that pound for pound the latest iPhone 5s is probably a better hardware device, especially given the quality of the camera but more and more these days it is not about the hardware it is about the software and this is where Google on a a real winner with these devices. Much like the Amazon Kindle, Google is using these Nexus devices as a gateway to their services and especially advertising content.
Android devices continue to be the most popular in the market today and with this new Nexus 5 device that is only expected to continue to grow.
