Microsoft has recently announced the following in a blog post:

http://blogs.office.com/2014/07/09/evolving-office-365-plans-for-small-and-midsized-businesses/

It will be revamping its Office 365 plans for small and mid-sized businesses. Previously there was Small Business (P1) and Small Business Premium (P2) along with Mid-sized Business (M) plans. From October these will be replaced with:

  • Office 365 Business – The full Office applications – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Publisher, with 1TB of OneDrive for Business cloud storage to access, edit and share your documents across your Windows PC, Mac, iPad, Windows tablet and smartphone.
  • Office 365 Business Essentials – The core cloud services for running your business – business class email and calendaring, Office Online, online meetings, IM, video conferencing, cloud storage and file sharing and much more.
  • Office 365 Business Premium – Get everything from both the Office 365 Business and Business Essentials plans.

These plans will not only be cheaper but they will also offer greater functionality and allow the use of additional options which were previously limited only to people with Enterprise (E) plans, which is great news!

Customers already on Enterprise (E) plans will be unaffected by these changes and customers on existing P and M plans will have 12 months from October to migrate to the new plans.

Some of the finer points around these plans needs to be made available but it is good to see Microsoft being pro-active on this matter and letting people know ahead of the curve.
