Consumer OneDrive space increases

In line with other increases in cloud storage, Microsoft has officially increased the amount of space available for its consumer version of OneDrive from 7GB to 15GB.

Every new user will automatically receive 15GB, while existing users will find their available space allocation increased. The service also allows users to purchase up to a total of 200GB for less than $5 per month.

Consumer OneDrive should not be confused with the offering from business Office 365 accounts. This service is known as OneDrive for Business and was recently scaled up to 1TB for every licensed user.

If you are using Windows 8, you probably already have a consumer OneDrive account that you may not be taking advantage of. This location is a great for storing things like photos, which consume large amounts of space on a desktop machine. Storing these in the cloud has the added benefit that it is easy to share them with others. It also makes a really handy place to store your travel snaps, so if you lose your camera you don’t lose all your memories.

The trend is that more and more offerings will come from the cloud and be full baked into the software that we use everyday. In many cases you will not even realize that you are using the cloud because it is becoming so seamless.

If you have an existing OneDrive consumer account look out for you space upgrade, and if you haven’t got an account yet, go sign up today, it’s free!
