Changes to buying Office 365 in Australia

Purchasers in Australia of Office 365 have generally up to this point always had to make their purchase through the exclusive syndication partner, Telstra. Microsoft recently announced that from the second of April they would be providing a number of additional purchase options.

These will be:

– Open Licensing

– Microsoft Online Portal

– Retail

Telstra will still remain as an option but the additional options give customers and resellers more options when it comes to selling Office 365.

Each medium has its own advantages and disadvantages which means that it more important than ever to ensure you understand what each offering includes before purchasing. This is because, as yet, there isn’t a clear path to migrate from the Telstra offering to Open licensing for example. This is expected to change down the track but as of the release date of April 2 it will not be.

Office 365 provides services like email, collaboration and conferencing on a subscriptions basis, which for many businesses means they can reduce their dependency on on premise server equipment.
